Is Moving to Sierra from El Cap a good move now?

I have a 15" 2015 MBP (top end one) and I am still on 10.11.6 (El Cap) mainly because I was perfectly happy with it, none of Sierra's new features were enticing enough to move (I don't use Siri on my phone or iPad why would I use it on my Mac) and lastly as now often seems to be the case the launch of the new OS didn't seem that stable.

However, I am going to have a reason to upgrade in the next month or so, but just wondering is now a good time to make the switch or are a lot of these "X stopped working in 12.4" (or whatever the latest upgrade is) I am seeing on this forum right now actually valid, and I should wait a few weeks longer... at least for another update to be released?

I won't upgrade until 10.12.6. This last build of sierra has brought many issues for me even after a fresh install. I'm downgrading all the way down to El Capitan.

I was in the same place, no issues with El cap, but I had an extra SSD, so...
Only one problem so far, an old game app - Goban - is partially disabled. It still works if you want to play the black stones, but you cannot switch to play the white. Gr....
Otherwise Sierra feels good now at 12.4. Test it and make sure you have a bootable backup of El Cap first?

I think that's probably a wise move nowadays.. considering Apple introduces old bugs, and despite new features add there is a clear pattern Apple never learns from their mistakes, or even attempts to try and learn.

I've seen Mail issues so many times in every major OS release from .1 it drives me crazy to even think they keep breaking it. Usually i don't clain an OS stable, at least with Apple, till its at least .4 or .5

Well, I had some broken aliases, but that was easy to fix. Not sure if it had anything to do with the OS.

You might want to download a copy of el Cap from the store, and stick it over on some old drive or something, just in case you find yourself in a situation where you actually want the OS. Apple Store will duly note that you've done the download, and deserve another copy even years from now.

I have literally just upgraded again after going back to el cap a few months back. Performance wise, its not as quick as el cap, I'm on a 2015 top end MBP retina too. Safari stutters, not as quick UI graphics wise either, i'll leave it for a while so it can all index, but i have a feeling sierra might never be as smooth as el cap.

No issues at all here. And it's normal to see just threads about problems here. No one is going to open a thread just to say everything is fine.

I'm running 10.12.4 on my late 2011 MBP. Pretty solid so far.

Best thing to do is, if you have an extra HD laying around that's the same size as your current drive, download Carbon Copy Cloner and make a bootable clone of your drive (comes with a 30 day trial). Once finished, you can upgrade your internal drive and test the OS. If you don't have any problems, keep it. If you do have problems, you can clone back from your external and pick up where you left off.

Take in mind that any files made in Sierra will need to be backed up before cloning El Cap back to your internal.

10.12.4 is superb. Much better than 10.11.6, but others will say otherwise.

No, in my view, it is no a good idea for various reasons.

I find Sierra to be faster than El Capitan. I noticed immediately after I upgraded (I'm on a Mac Pro 5,1 by the way).

Also, I'm finding Sierra to be slightly less buggy than El Cap, but most of El Capitan's bugs are still there. I'm not a fan of the glitchy animations either (specifically quicklook and expanding folders down in a list). Quick Look's animation was flawless in Mavericks and Yosemite, but El Cap and Sierra is glitchy, especially when closing the quicklook window too fast. I also noticed how the quicklook window doesn't start to show until about 1/3 of the way into the animation. It should start animating from the icon and onward, but it simply does not.

i went from el cap to 10.12.2 (didnt have a newer DMG on hand) which was noticeably sluggish and updated to 10.12.4. Im finding 10.12.4 to be faster on both computers
