I have a cellular gen 1 128g 12.9 and am considering an upgrade to Gen 2 but unsure if I will see a benefit till the next iteration, however the p/ex price at Apple is still reasonable so I am thinking about doing it soon.

Looking at the Geekbench scores on Gen1 vs Gen2 the biggest increase is in muticore 84% and metal 87%, but less so on single core (28%). As I don’t do gaming or video editing type work but mostly consumption and a few text/office/stylus oriented apps would I notice a big benefit upgrading in day to day usage?

Given the steep price increase with the 256/512, the cheapest 64g option would reduce my space by half too, though I could live with that but feel a bit cheated.

The iPad definitely feels faster than my 1'st gen 12.9 did. I mostly use it for watching movies and tv shows, browsing safari and some games. The biggest improvement I have noticed is battery life, the 3 power saving cores along with the brighter screen (so it doesn't have to be at such a high brightness all the time) has increased my battery life by at least double. I used to get 2-4 hours on my gen 1 and currently get 9-11 hours on my gen 2. The battery life alone was the biggest upgrade for me, and it has been fantastic. About the storage issue, do you mostly stream? I'm currently converting my library to H.265 thanks to Apple's increased support and it has made the 64GB a no issue for me, you can literally fit twice as much. However gen 1 also supports H.265 so you would still be giving up some storage space.

Tldr; Slightly faster, battery life is -MUCH- better.

I stream mostly so space is not that big a deal, but for the same price as a gen1 it is still effectively a downgrade.
