Hi

My Apple TV 4K (64GB) arrived on December 16th. The set-up was easy and I was impressed with the new interface etc.

A few days later I noticed some flickering on the left side of the screen whilst the screensaver was playing. At the time I thought it might be a corrupt stream and put the Apple TV to sleep. It worked fine until last night when the same problem occurred again... The Television works fine through the normal Android apps, so this is definitely an issue with the Apple TV.

I spoke to Apple Support today and they asked that I re-set the Apple TV, which I have done, however, it remains to be seen if the issue comes back.

To me it looks like a hardware problem as I have looked elsewhere for a similar issue, but haven't found anything yet.

The problem can be viewed here...

Set-up:
Apple TV 4K 64GB
Sony Bravia 55" 4K TV
Apple HDMI cable

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Have you tried a new cable and/or a new HDMI port? I had issues with my ATV3 flickering, but it wasn't that bad.

If the above doesn't help, then it is most certainly a bad ATV 4K.

As you already use Apple-provided HDMI cable, then first obvious suggestion to use something different, does not apply.
Still, I'd test with another cable first (to eliminate bad cable). If problem persists, I'd take it in to Apple Store Genius to check for possible hardware issue.

Send it back, never seen that

It would be a little more prudent to test it first and make sure it isn't the cable or TV causing the issue. Send it back, get a new one and have the same problem would be frustrating.

That being said, I think it is probably the ATV.

Thanks for responses. Have swapped the HDMI port over. It might be a few days before the issue comes back, but will keep an eye on it.

Will keep you posted.
