To give you guys some basic information. I run 10.6.3 on my desktop and have all available updates. My computer is reliable and it's apps all work without an issue.
The iPad I got today seems to work fine out of the box. Downloaded a few free apps, etc. Once I load it with data, it basically stops working.
For example, when I sync my photo library. It has about 10,500 photos in it. The system went through a lengthy process of compressing and preparing the photos for upload during the sync, and everything was copied to the iPad, all in all using 8.77GB for the photo library. With my music and a few apps downloaded, I have 23.53GB free on this 64GB iPad.
On the home screen, the picture frame icon starts to cycle though the photos in my photo library when I click on it, so I know the photos are there. However, when I attempt to access the photos application, it says 'Please Wait...updating library'. During that process, it crashes out to the home screen (with icons), then about 10 seconds later crashes out to an Apple symbol with the spinning circle on top of it (like, when your desktop is being shut down, the on that looks like a clock with no hands, just the markers). That turns about half a dozen times and the iPad chirps like it's being plugged in and unplugged over and over. Eventually, that freezes and everything becomes completely unresponsive. I'm left with no choice but to force a power off by holding power and the home button for about 5-6 seconds.
When I power back up, the boot process is very long. I am stuck at the silver apple logo for about 2-3 minutes before I get my home screen. Eventually, it does get me back to the locked screen, but the time it takes is very long.
The exact same thing happens with the music library (about 15GB of music and 8GB of videos). Get the device loaded up, click on iPod, get a message that it is updating library (for about 30 seconds), then crash to main screen, crash to apple logo with spinning icon on top, 15-20 seconds later, full crash requiring hard reboot. Hard reboot takes 2-3 minutes to get past the apple logo during boot.
I have reloaded the iPad twice, doing a full reset and not restoring a backup, simply syncing my data up and attempting to use it. Only 4 apps are loaded from the store -- Marvel, eBay, iBooks, and BigOven Lite.
When I got into the 'About' screen, number of photos are reported correctly, songs and videos say zero each which is not correct, and if you sit in the about screen for about 2 minutes without taking any action, it crashes exactly the same way while you aren't even using it.
I do not see this device working, but basic browsing and the like seems fine immediately after a reload. Add data (of any type) and it goes to the unstable mode.
Has anyone had similar symptoms? I searched but couldn't find anything similar.
