That looks normal to me. For free screen recording have a look at Jing.

Also to test your HD "speed" I would use something like xBench to get some numbers.

You can save it to your computer but it isn't the most intuitive process.

Go to Jing preferences "Set up sharing for" then "File" then in target directory enter where you want it saved, ( i usually choose the desktop). (Once set it will always save the files o the same place.

After you have recorded the video a window pops up. In this window there is the options of what to do with the video. Press file then share. The file is now on your desktop. However it is a .swf you can open this in quicktime and then go "File" - "Save" then save it as a self contained movie and then you can upload it to youtube.

Why do you feel the need to post anything and everything that randomly pops into your mind? Didn't last night you post something like "OMG A CD CAN FIT UNDER MY KEYBOARD OH NOES!!!!11" seriously quit being so paranoid.

and when you do file, then save in quicktime, what does it save it as? .mov?

Yes it saves it as a .mov. The reason for this step is that youtube as I understand it does not accept .swf so you have to save it in a format it will accept. This is a very quick an free way of doing it with software that is already on your computer.
