So Ive had my MBP for just under a year now and the battery is reading 48% health with 116 cycles. Occasionally the health will jump back up to 88%, but it will drop back down again soon after.

I tried recalibrating last night and it didnt help, but im not sure if I did it right. I charged my MBP up and then unplugged it and went to bed. I think it went to sleep in the night even though I told it not to. In the morning it was discharged and shut off, but I dont know if it was discharging the 5 hours that apple says it needs to. Would recalibrating the battery fix this problem or is the battery itself to blame?

That's not a good sign...it shouldn't be down that much after so few cycles. Do a full calibration. Also try resetting your SMC. If that doesn't help, try contacting Apple, because they'll probably cover that under a warranty issue, as that's not normal battery degradation.

What kind of battery life are you getting? Is it an actual battery life issue or is it an issue with the computer reading the charge level incorrectly?

Ok so my battery health just dropped to 40%. It gives me about a hour and half of power while not doing anything. I assume the battery is just not taking the charge because under the system profiler it gives me the charge:

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 2647
Remaining Capacity (mAh): 2647

On a side note, the charger light wont turn green even when its fully charged. It says 100% battery life and stays orange. OS X keeps displaying (Calculating) for the battery time.

Bad battery.

Just had two batteries replaced that exhibited the same symptoms. Got them both replaced no questions asked (well, a few just to be sure).

I would definitely call Apple and get the battery replaced (if you still have AppleCare).

Did they require you to send your mac in or did they just ship you a new battery? I dont know if they need it to verify the faulty battery.

On a side note this doesnt really say a lot for the quality of the new macs. This is my 2nd hardware problem and it hasnt even been a year yet. They already had to replace the logic board. And to think, I was debating whether to get apple care or not. Its not really much of a choice now.

I dunno, I bought my mbp when they first came out and I've had to send it in for a logic board replacement (to cure the whining) and they replaced my battery. I'd much rather have them be willing to fix it, instead of just assuring me that it's supposed to work that way.

I usually buy AppleCare anyway, but because they've taken good care of me I'm even more likely to buy it again in the future.

FWIW, my battery is on 117 cycles, and 80% capacity. I would say yours is toast, unfortunately.
