I have had my MPB for 3 months, and have been careful to calibrate the battery, keep an eye on things, etc. Lately it's been hovering around 85% health (which seemed low to me, but it still had a 3 hour charge, so I was good).

Anyway, I've had two or three kernel panics this months, which has troubled me.

Then today, I unplug my laptop after charging it for an hour or so -- and after 10 minutes, without warning, the thing dies. I didn't think it was the battery, so I try and turn it back on -- I hear the Mac OS X startup noise, HD sputtering, and then nothing. Tried it a few more times before it refused to come to life at all.

I plugged it in and it works but then I unplug it and the thing dies. The charge-o-meter says "No batteries available."

I checked out the system profiler, and it says there is no battery installed.

So -- is this a MPB issue or a battery issue?

seems like a dead battery to me, install coconut battery and see what it says about your battery.

My MBP battery died after about 2mos. Could leave it plugged in all night and as soon as I unplug it the thing died. Went to an Apple store and they gave me a new one on the spot.

All I've done is leave it plugged in more than before. I used to drain the battery more often due to the convenience of just not having to plug it in to use.

usually after about a year, one would want to get a new battery. Battery life after a year can drop by half or more. (i.e. Apple iPod batteries)

9 months, i am assuming you have the CD version. The battery life was probably affected by heat.
