I have a mid-2012 MacBook Pro and when I have it on my lap, the battery seems to get hotter than it use to.

Is this normal and I never noticed before or is it a sign the battery is failing? I keep the laptop plugged in 24/7. Thanks.

I've read that older batteries do heat up more when charging, probably not a good sign. If that's your original battery, it ought to be failing by now. I suppose you checked battery health in the system report. How long does it last if you run the machine on battery?

Thanks for the reply, I rarely run the laptop on battery only unless I move it to a different location for a short time.

I also searched online and saw where it said to check the Activity Monitor to see what’s my usage is and saw that the Microsoft Edge that I installed is using a lot of power.

I need the Edge in order to view Youtube since I can’t with regular Safari for whatever reason. So I just removed Edge from my dock and my laptop isn’t heating up like before. Hopefully I’m good.

If I need to view Youtube I’ll just move Edge back in and back out when I’m done.
