so ive noticed over the past month or so that my 2g iPhone's battery life has been declining, but today was ridiculous, and i want to see if this is normal wear and tear, or i should take it to the genius bar.

i charge it to 100% every night. It gets about 6.5 hours of charge time a night.

Today I took it off the charger at 7:30 am

Throughout the day I listened to about 45 minutes of music, 45 minutes of app game use, and about 10 minutes of internet over wifi. I've only sent and received about 7 texts today, and have received 2 calls that lasted less than a minute.

By 3:30 pm the phone was down to 20% battery.

Wifi is always off unless being used, bluetooth is always off, brightness is set to less than 20%. Push is off.

should I take it to the apple store? Thanks!

All cell phone and laptop batteries have a certain charge life cycle. All batteries will die eventually. However, your iPhone is under warranty within a certain amount of cycles, say 300 for example. If you go to the Apple store and they find out your battery is under 300 cycles and in severe condition, they will replace the battery for free. If the battery is just old and worn out, say over 400 cycles, you will have to pay to have it replaced.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's their policy. Regardless, get it check it out.

Your battery may be shot but before doing anything try this.....

I had a similar situation with my 2G phone which is about 10 months old. Suddenly the battery life got much worse. The battery was even draining about by 40% just sitting on standby overnight. I assumed it was a dying battery.

I checked this forum and it turns out that occasionally apps can get 'stuck' and continue to run in the background. There was no outward sign of this on the phone. All I had to do was turn the phone right off (which I never tend to do, I always have it on standby), and this killed whatever was running. Once turned back on battery life was back to normal.

Worth a try before a trip to the Apple Store....

This is why you should leave your phone off in the night, I dont see why people leave them on!!!
