I have a first gen Apple TV which I only use very occasionally. As I recall, when I turn it on a window came up with choices: Movies, Podcasts, etc. Today I don't get that window. It opens with two icons, Computers and Settings. If I follow Settings, there is a list of options: General Main Menu etc. If I click on Main Menu a window comes up with a picture of the Apple TV and the words Main Menu but nothing else.

I tried doing a Restart, unplugging and replugging of the HDMI and power cords to no avail. Is it still possible to get to the window that has Movies, Podcasts, etc. or is the device hopelessly obsolete?

Thanks.

I've never actually used one so I'm just guessing here, but I'd assume that Movies etc. should show up as long as there are movies on it. If you plug in a USB cable and connect it to iTunes, can you see anything on it? Can you copy and videos onto it, and if so, do they show up on the ATV itself?

I'm wondering whether the hard drive might have died, but I don't know whether it'll boot as far as it is without one. [Edit: This guide says it'll come up with a flashing question mark if it can't access the hard drive.]
