I have a friend who has a jailbroken and tmobile unlocked 2g iPhone with 2.1. The other day he upgraded to 2.2 not knowing that he wasn't supposed to. Since then he has tried re-jailbreaking but was not successful in doing so. He said he saw a "nerd" come up on the screen with german writing in a speech bubble. Not sure what this even means but that's what he said. Anyone know what's wrong with his phone?

No the phone is most likely not "bricked". Their is no problem updating to 2.2 on either the 2G or 3G phone. Try to put the phone in DFU mode, look up how through google, restore through iTunes and run either quickpwn or winpwn to jailbreak / activate.

That would be the custom restore screen I'd imagine:D

lmao, Steve the nerd. Ok well I'm not sure why he couldn't unlock. He's going to let me borrow his phone and I will try quickpwn on my mac.

does the iPhone have to be synced to your computer to jailbreak it through your computer? my brother replaced his laptop and never recovered his iTunes, so long story short his Touch is running on like the 2.1 firmware, and i tried jailbreaking it through my computer, and yes i used the right jailbreak for 2.1, and it didn't work because it searched for some folder i had no idea to look for.

however when i jailbroke my Touch it automatically found the folder i needed, so it has something to do with syncing.
