Is my iMac dead

Hi, I have a imac 27" late 2011 which started to shut down and reboot. It happens sometimes on logg in screen and sometimes after i logg in. I ran the apple hardware test and it detected a error which was "4MOT/40000003: HDD-1415" which from googling found out it was something with a fan or so I thought. I sent it in to apple to repair they sent it back saying there was no problem with the imac. I turned it on and of course it shut s down as before. I sent it back in and to cut a long story short they sent it back 3 times before they said there was a problem with it.
I was told by the technician at I needed either a new housing or a new logic board, I was wondering from the error code could this be aright diagnostic?

By back cover I assume they are guessing the on/off switch is bad. Someone on here recently figured out a way to just replace it, the switch, without buying the case so I wouldn't throw away money on a that.

Im not sure, if it was a bad switch would it turn on and boot.. it is very strange for them to say i need to change back cover because of a switch. I can send them a message and ask reason for changing back cover

I am surprised Apple looked at it as it is considered obsolete. Or by Apple do you mean a local Reseller? If so I would be getting a second opinion as sometimes bucks is the prime reasoning. A logic board would not be worthwhile on a seven year old computer alas.

The 4MOT means the fan is not working. If an additional fan, maybe the 256GB SSD was added, or the platter driver replaced, it seems the Heat Sensor Kit was not replaced at the time. Have a read of this from OWC who sell the kits.

Thats exacly what I said to the technician but he said its working fine. The mac was bought with the ssd already installed from apple do you think maybe they forgot the cable. But if they had why would it work for 7yrs and then suddenly begin overheating unless the cable has a fault.

2011 Macs often have a problem with graphics.

Also, check the RAM DIMMs. I would remove and re-seat them if possible.
