Well I came here to ask this question because I have no idea whats going on.

Symptons:

Network diagnosis reports that everything is green until internet and Server where it states that both Fail.
- Internet disconnects when I open Adium (sometimes)
- Internet disconnects when I watch youtube videos ( selecting high resolution will disconnect my internet faster than standard resolution )

Weird things:

I can run Transmission and download any amount of torrents at any speed all day without my internet connection breaking.

I have tried:

2 Different locations.

Location 1 - Telefonica cable router with DSL and microfilter tried 2 ethernet cables. Called Telefonica technicians, he said the connection was all good but just in case he replaced my router.

Location 2 - Radio internet ( Antena on the roof with decoder router in the house ) tried 3 different cables still the same proble.

Tried my relatives windows xp laptop all works fine. Tried my old windows computer and everything works fine.

Everything everywhere is set to automatic on all computers. Dynamic IP everywhere.

Its a new iMac 3.06Ghz 24". 2 months old. Only started doing this since I was at location 1. I live at location 2 and never happened before but now does since I was at the other location.

Please help me :( someone !

Thanks

It sounds like a modem problem, not a system problem. Radio Internet is notoriously problematic.

I would check to see that your DNS settings are correct, or that you are using one of universal addresses. Or you need to enter a DHCP client ID on your system to reinforce you connection (don't know why, but when going back and forth between school and my apartment it makes getting an IP address occur faster.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention Location 1 has 3mb ADSL connection it is not Radio Internet.

It's so weird. I can connect my Playstation 3 up and it can play games online all day.

If I connect my Mac and wait until it breaks then connect my Playstation 3 will not connect until a certain amount of time passes ( Location 1 ). I cannot say if thats the same at location 2 because I do not have my PS3 here.

I am just so lost I do not know what to do or what the causes are.

This might sound mad. Could the ISP be non compatible.

The ADSL connection is supplied by Telefonica.
The Radio Internet connection is supplied by Iberbanda ( its mother company is Telefonica )

Could anyone tell me if a broken Eithernet Card would give me the diagnosis of:

Ethernet - Green
Network Settings - Green
ISP - Green
Internet - Red
Server - Red

If it was my ethernet card wouldn't it always fail on the Ethernet check?

Please I am completely lost and I get no support from my ISP as they don't deal with Macs.

* Sorry double post due to bad internet connection and confusion as to if it was sent or not *

I have a similar problem. When I have Transmission open, my internet disconnects and reconnects constantly. What could be the problem?

Can always try to drag the internetconfig preferences to trash to see if the preferences got hosed.

Also adding another user and trying that might be a diagnostic tool to see if other things in the user are causing issues.

In your Library preferences folder.

Of course searching for that plist file could also be used.
