Hi guys,

Downloaded Mountain Lion absolutely fine, it's restarted and now I'm stuck on a grey screen with the colourful loading circle going round and round and has been for 15-20 mins now..should I be worried?

Thanks!

It takes a while, but it shouldn't take THAT long. I'd say, after an hour of the spinning beach ball of death, I'd do a hard restart (or cut the power) and try restarting. If still no luck, it might be time to visit the Apple Store....:(

Sorry, that sucks.

Disclaimer: Hard restarts and cutting power are done at your own risk! I'm sure others will tell you to absolutely never do this, but it has worked for me in the past.

Thanks for the reply! When you say hard reset, just hold down the power button to turn off and then back on again?

Right, I turned the power off and then back on and now it's installing the OSX :) Seems like it didn't actually restart before, just got stuck doing that for some reason!

Time left, 34 minutes :)

Thanks again for your reply and I'll make sure to come back once it's installed to report what's happened to it may. Hopefully help someone else or put their mind at rest too, thanks again!

Correct. Hold that power button down until you hear that familiar chime. If it happens again though, bring it to the Apple Store tomorrow and let the so-called geniuses see if they can fix it.

By the way, the Genius Bar is usually appointment only these days, so use whatever device you're using to access MacRumors right now, and go to http://www.apple.com/retail/, find your store, and schedule an appointment...assuming your hard restart doesn't work.

Awesome! You did that while I was typing! Sounds like you can avoid the Genius Bar after all. Glad I could help!
