I have connected my iMac to my Time Capsule router but I'm not sure if it is connecting via ethernet or Wi-Fi as I have the Wi-Fi symbol showing in the top right of my screen and when I select this and my router name it gives me the option to Disconnect but when I select this nothing happens.

Above Disconnect is the option "PPPoE Connected" but this is greyed out.

I want to ensure my Mac is connected via ethernet and not Wi-Fi.

Thanks for your help.

Navigate to system prefrences>network it should say whether ethernet or airport is connected, while in that menu, you can turn off airport.

To make sure you're not on Wi-Fi, look to your Menu Bar, then click here:

The OP didn't mention anything about turning Wi-Fi off.

I tried that via the menu bar but it didn't work.

However, as per MacCubed's suggestion I have now done so via Preferences/Network.

According to that I was connected by both Ethernet and Wi-Fi.

Thanks to all.
