Is my Mac Pro Dying....?

Hi, so I recently purchased a Refurbished Mac Pro 2.66ghz from the online Apple store.
& It has been truly awesome..everything I was expecting & hoping for.
However, today a strange thing has happened.
Went to turn it on and

....its sounded like it was starting up but....didn't...Nothing on the monitor and I noticed there was also no ping sound when I pushed the button....It definatly did sound like disc was spinning and fans moving....(the screen was definatly pluged in)....
Held down the 'On' button to turn the Mac completely off.
Gave it 30secs and hit the 'On' button again and...bang..its working...ping sound happens and screen comes on....So Im thinking sweet...must just be a once of thing....did my work on it...then had to go out so I shutdown.
well I come back few hours later & exactly the same thing happened.....

(BTW I use this Mac Pro solely for pro audio, and its has Pro Tools PCIe Accel cards in it....incase that info might be relevant.)

has this happened to anyone? Is something seriously messed up in there?
any insight or advice would be awesome! im freaking a little as I really cant afford down time on this computer..

Apple sent me a DOA Mac Pro last week, and your recount sounds similar to what mine did. Although mine never worked at all, ever. Sent it back and they shipped me a replacement, which works fortunately.

I would turn it on, and the monitor was completely blank, and the tower never made that chime sound at startup.

If you're within the first 90 days of purchase, I'm pretty sure you can call for free on-site repair and diagnostic.

Mine did something similar. At first I thought it was the videocard. Apple replaced that, but eventually there was a motherboard problem. They ultimately replaced the machine. Give 'em a call.

I had 3 mac Pros DOA

Meagsy - I feel for you about the downtime. Yes, I had THREE Mac Pros returned, DOA between March and May.

BTW, the first one was a refurb. I complained on a thread started by another guy with a DOA Mac Pro, but after running for under 24 hours my comment, which was perfectly polite and articulate, disappeared off this site.

Mac allows as how they may have shipped the lot with a bad video card.

I'm pretty disgusted and ended up buying a Dell gaming machine for my graphics work. It has a fabulous graphics card and 24 hour tech support, which I happen to like since I don't keep banker's hours.

Anyway, this site seems to be edited in more ways than we may care to believe, and they don't want anyone to know that the Mac Pro is a pretty tragic showing.

Consumers get more than 90 days Guaranty

I recently had problems with a replaced motherboard on G5 that didnt work properly.

My apple reseller said sorry your over the 90 days so we cant do anything about it.

I Got legal advice and it turns out that under the law (In Holland anyway), That consumers actually have more rights that just the manufacturers 90 day guaranty (If you buy through a reseller and NOT directly from apple).

Don't be brushed off if your apple reseller give you a hard time.

p.s. Thats the advantage of not buying directly from apple. You Have more protection!!!! Check it out for yourself!!!

In the U.S. (not sure about other countries), Apple provides 90 days of free phone support and 365 days of technical repair coverage with purchase. Adding AppleCare extends phone support and repair coverage for a full 3 years from purchase. I know that, with AppleCare, repair coverage includes on-site diagnostics and repair for Mac Pros and Xserves, but I'm not sure if the original warranty.
