Is My Mac Pro Too Old for an ATI Radeon 5770??

I work in a small TV Station.

I have an older Mac Pro 1,1
Dual-Core Intel Xeon 3GHz
9GB of Ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT

We are desperate to get Final Cut Pro 10 and the GeForce 7300 GT is not compatible with FCP 10 as you all know.

Will the ATI Radeon HD 5770 allow us to run FCP 10?
 
6807s will work, though I'm fairly certain you'll have to flash it, unless you're running 10.7.4 or such. Look for Cindori and find his signature, he's got a lot of good information regarding that.
 
The 6870 (a PC card) will work in your mac. You do not need to flash it and in fact there is NO POINT in flashing it as there's no version of the firmware that will allow for the boot screen .

When you start the computer, you will get a black screen until the OS X driver loads for the 6870, and then everything will work great. I'd recommend having a backup video card in the computer in case you need the boot screen for something, but you don't actually need it.

I have a MP 1,1 with an unflashed 6870 sitting 10 feet away from that works fantastic.

Edit: Don't buy the dual fan model as it wont work right.
 
i run FCP X on my 1.1, works great. 16gb of ram (8x2Gb), 5770 mac card, and upgraded the cpu's to x5355's.

Really thats great information I was told it was better because the single fan one over hets and is extremely loud but I couldn't say because I never seen it in person

Thanks for clearing that up slug. I've been out of the scene (such as it is) for a while so I didn't recall.

I can't remember exactly. I think it was the XFX. I read on Netkas forums people were having trouble with it and decided not to buy it. You should always verify your model there before choosing one.

[edit: yeah, the xfx dual fan had sleep-wake problems for at least 1 guy, I thought I saw another negative report somewhere too]

I have this XFX which is fairly loud and this Sapphire which is very quiet.

Both work great in my 1,1 out of the box.

I flashed the XFX to work with my new Mac Pro but it required changing a few things in the flash script (I detailed it here somewhere, I got the info from Netkas.org). Now it works great (aside from... loud). I haven't flashed the Sapphire yet but I heard it requires the same modification.
