Is my MM dead? (Mountain Lion)

I upgraded to 10.8 and it's been very buggy. I can't log in, as when I do, the computer just gets "stuck".

I tried going into recovery mode dozens of times (so I can reformat/restore), but it won't work. Other startup commands work, but Command+R doesn't do anything.
 
Did you... install this as your main OS? :confused:

Have you tried holding the alt/option key at boot up to try and get into recovery that way?
 
I tried Alt + R, too, and just Alt, but nothing happened. I was able to reset the PVRAM, so I'm not sure if my timing is off, or if I'm unable to.
 
And yes, I foolishly installed it as my main. Mountain Lion has a recovery aspect to it, though. It HAS to.
 
You are a paid up Apple developer, right? So you have an authorized copy of Mountain Lion, right?

So how come you don't have backup or another system? The whole idea of the developer preview is for developers to test their applications. The developers are expected to know how to deal with problems, and a sane developer has another system or boot disk to go back to in case of problems.
 
A real developer would also know they can't legally discuss anything about 10.8 here.

Wipe your HD and reinstall 10.7
 
You have a computer that works since you are able to check here - just log into the seeds discussion portal and I'm sure you will find the help you need there..
 
That doesn't really help. I'm not sure if MM has its own recovery partition. :/

Developers have their own forum at Apple; since you have ML, you should be a developer, so why not post questions at the proper apple forum? If you have a pirated version from a torrent, there's now way we will help you.
 
Perhaps the ML developer preview has built-in defenses against unauthorized users (i.e non-registered-developers) installing it. :eek:

No, like, I was able to install it and use it. When I restarted, all the bad stuff happened.
 
You seem to be avoiding the posts about asking for help on Apples Developer forum. So, you likely got Mountain Lion illegally and thus nothing we, or Apple, can do for you.

Mountain Lion is in beta, it's not a consumer release. The fact you installed it as your main OS with no full system back up or rather have ML installed on a partion is utterly stupid, no knowledgable developer does something like that.

OP has opened several other threads asking for help instead of going to the Apple developer forum.
 
quite a lot of sanctimonious people on this thread, i have to say. who hasn't ever tried to get the latest release of an os or some other app for free? have none of you?

the guy made a mistake and has now asked for your help. enough with the morality lectures.
 
Problem is it appears that the software was not obtained and used legally.

If it was obtained with a legal redemption code - he would already know that no one is permitted to help him here anyways.

Not just the fact that we keep our support within the Seed walls, but also that Macrumors does not permit talking about illegally obtained software openly, and this is just more blatant than saying "My photoshop crashed my machine" since Adobe rarely keeps testers and developers behind secure forums for new products.

Then the fact that the OP has been opening more thread about the exact same issue repeatedly, which luckily get deleted pretty fast.

Some people just deserve to be told the truth. Nothing more than that here.


AND - there have been lots of helpful posts here regardless.

I don't steal things; I don't download stolen software. I pay for every app I download unless it is distributed free like Firefox/Opera/Chrome. I will wait until Mountain Lion is released and then buy it if I think it's worth it, otherwise I'll stick to Lion.

There are no "legal redemption codes" for OSx and OSx doesn't use redemption codes anyway.

MacRumors rules say you can't help with pirated software anyway. The OP should be a developer and know what to do.

I think the reality is though, if he's using a pirated version we really have no idea what he has nor what's been done to it before he got it. Could be that the built in keystroke logger or the credit card number sender is malfunctioning in it :p

To clarify, developers and testers are provided redemption codes to plug into the App store to download pre-release and beta software.

But yes, the are no 'legal' codes for other people to download that software.

I should have used the word 'authorized' instead of 'legal'.
