Is my phone defective?

Just got the iPhone a couple of days ago.
Today I noticed that when I'm at home sitting in the
same place, I go any where from 4 bars of 3G to 0 bars
to Edge.

Is this kind of behavior expected? I'm pretty disappointed
to see that happen. I had only heard stories about dropped
calls but it seems like it is a real problem.

Where do you live, that may be a problem.
Find out if this happens to you when you're on EDGE with 3G turned off.

Could be that the 3G signal in your area is weak or not covering 100% of it.
