Hey All,

I just thought I would ask for some input with regards to PVR/Video Library.
I would like to think I have tried and built them all. Currently I find Microsofts Media Centre the best. It records well and is very easy to use. I liked Myth for a long time but all the Linux stuff was too much work.

Currently I am using a box I built with some WinTV (Haupage tuners) and running Windows 7. It works great. Only problem is the noise. I am the kind of Mac user who appreciates design and quiet. I can not stand the noise of a computer fan and indulge in the luxury of Apple's thoughtful designs.

So here is my plan. Purchase new Mac Mini, BootCamp Windows 7, Elgato or whatever USB for recording. And extra storage thru NAS.

is it as good as Windows Media? For example can it record TV and use networked drives for media storage? I have not tried it.

The other thing I love about the MS version how well it works with the MS remote and IR receiver.

EyeTV is pretty good and naturally you can use network disks....
Don't buy a mini for Windows... it is sad ahahah.

If you have some place to hide it (because it will big bigger and uglier), a PC will be cheaper for the same hardware.

Yeah, it's a DVR and records to whatever drive you want. Works great wit the apple remote and you can control it from your iPhone. Check out Plex, too. It completes the htpc experience.

I love how us mac users refer to the new mini as bigger and uglier. You should see the PC have setup right now. I ve spent $50 upgrading it cooler quieter fans. The thing is so big, ugly, and still loud. I am someone who really enjoys quiet. I ll look at eye TV. Any tuners you recommend? I figure USB is the only way to go?

^^^ So far, Apple has the best Nano Computer implementation.

All the other manufacturers are either more expensive or use an Intel Atom (with the nVidia Ion, maybe - some still use the GMA950) as their nano platform.

Elgato makes hardware and eyetv software, but other tuners are supported.
