is Nikon D750 successor on the horizon?

If you watch nikonrumors you'll start seeing signs of new gear. There hasn't really been much at all other than fakes about a D750 update or a D850. I don't think we'll see anything for awhile (but I could be wrong). The D750 is still a very formidable piece of gear. I read some reviews of the D500 and D5 that said the D750 still has the best dynamic range of current Nikon cameras. To me the D750 hits a sweet spot with size, performance, and price. I bet Nikon will want to milk it a little longer before coming out with a replacement.

Looking at the table at the bottom of this wiki page, you'd think either the D810 or D610 is due an upgrade first, but this assumes they upgrade in time order.......

I did read buyers guide on nikon rumors which mentioned that 2016 is an upgrade for D750 but there hasn't been much other info so I thought I would try my luck here. I'm not in rush and I don't mind if they update it but I would either buy the newer one or buy the D750 discounted (when the successor hits the market). However, the last thing I wanna do is to pay almost full price and then 3 months later have it slashed as the successor would be announced.
I think realistically I might treat myself for xmas so there is plenty of time but maybe I might even stretch it to april 2017. At the moment I'm on D90 so yeah

If you're specifically waiting for the D750 successor so that you can get the latest and greatest in technology, you can play that game forever and go nowhere Freida.
You debated this back in March so may have missed many photo opportunities in the meantime.
If it's a camera you want and it's within your budget, don't worry about what may or may not happen. Go for it, enjoy and post some great shots in the Photo of the Day thread.

The D750 is still fairly new I thought, and it really is a sweet spot for performance and price. I wouldn't expect a replacement in 2016. I would think the D810 update would come first.

Find a camera that you like and go with it. Waiting for the 'next big thing' is cheaper, but not as much fun. unless something is imminent (August is a crummy time to by the latest iPhone), Most cameras in that price point are really great. I like Nikon, but Canon doesn't sell garbage for $2000. Neither does Sony.

Ah, the paralyzing effects of time the purchase syndrome. I too have fallen victim to that. It's like timing the stock market, catching a falling knife, or voting for the U.S. President in 2016...nobody wins. I understand, especially when making a big jump (from D90 to FF) and for big money but save yourself some anxiety. When you are ready, just pull the trigger on what you want and don't look back. 3 months later and there will be a better deal on whatever you bought or rumors of the next upgrade. The tech cycle is a cruel mistress. The D750 won't be slashed in half or anything. It's a dang good camera and I think it will hold it's value. Except for Grey Market, used, or refurbs it hasn't dropped much to date.
The D90 was/is a great DX camera. The D750 will be a natural step forward for you. You will be astounded with what you can do with the D750 and the 24-70 (or even a 50mm). You'll probably never pick up the D90 again unless you have too. If you really want or need to get it cheaper then watch the used market. You can find them for $1500 now and will probably drop more if a successor is named. I'm not sure Nikon will drop the price too much though. A new D600 is still going for $1400 or so.
Current D750 and 24-70mm 2.8 owner here.
Both are great bits of kit and work really well together.
Check out Nikon's cash back deals. They can be a good time to buy.
I also track Nikon prices on a UK site, but I'm sure there are equivalents where you are.
Also if recommend the first 24-70mm 2.8 version. Yes it doesn't have VR, but IMO you don't really need it on that short a zoom. Especially as the D750 has much more range of usable ISO than your D90.
It's lighter as well as cheaper, so win win.

I bought it, with the cash back offer.
Would I regret not waiting if a new one was released? Not at all, I've been able to master the camera in the time I would have been waiting, and get lots of shots in the meantime.
Sure there might be a new model in the coming months,
But there will be plenty more new models to upgrade to in the coming years as well, and I can always get one of those with no regrets. There's always a new model on the horizon, whatever the product.

I had one in march which I decided to wait and now next one is not going to be for a while. (October earliers - Thailand probably another one after that in april 2017) so I kinda have time to wait and see.
Also, because its such an expensive purchase I plan to squeeze the most out of it.
On the lens topic:
I definitely won't notice difference between 24-70 2.8 VR and non-VR now but is there actually any difference in the IQ eventually? Ie. lets I hope to have that lens for the rest of my life as lens don't really change much (correct) so is there any chance that I might regret not getting the VR version later?
Would anyone have a good comparison or website that compares them, please?
What would be your advice, please?

So if your in no rush, then you could wait a bit. However don't buy it just before your trip. DXO Mark is probably your best bet on checking the IQ on the two lenses, but I very much doubt you'd see any in the real world.
And yes good lenses can last a lifetime.
Definitely going to be a D810 and D610 update before the D750 is even touched. The D750 isn't as old as either of those cameras, and performs remarkably well.

Two things...
First, unless you have a lot of previous experience, don't wait for an expensive trip to get out and shoot. You could be very disappointed with the results. Good photography takes a great deal of practice with a significant amount of patience. You'll also need time to learn the idiosyncrasies of a new camera body/lens combination.
Unless all you want from a trip is vacation snapshots but you don't need an expensive camera for that.
Second, simply Google something like Nikon 24 - 70 VR vs non VR and you'll have lots of comparisons to read. Common consensus is that the non VR version is sharper, smaller, lighter and less expensive. That confirms I'll never trade mine in for the VR version.

The D90 - D750 transition ins't too bad. The 750 has an interface a lot like the high end crop sensor cameras.
The D610/810s would be a harder learning curve as I understand it. I have the Tamron 20-70VR and I like it. Truthfully, any 24-70 f2.8 is going to be a good lens, and likely better than anything similar from 20 years ago. Unless you only photograph reference cards, you will be happy with any off them. DXO mark can tell you the specifics, as others have mentioned, but they all work well. We can grind glass a lot better than we used to.

I went from D90 to D750. I have to laugh sometimes because I'm use to setting my D90 around f/2.8 when I shoot in low light. Now I've been using f/4 for low light shooting. A huge difference.
I would think the successor of the D750 would be similar to the D7000 to D7100 which would be a bump in the Video shooting and probably a better AF points
