It’s nearly a year since release for with 7,1 so I’m wondering should I wait till November or December to see if they’ll refresh the cpu ?

You'll be waiting a while. It took them 6 years to update to the new model.

It wasn't renowned for prolific updates before that.

If you need a Mac Pro right now for work get one.

RDNA2 is imminent. So they made add that to the Mac Pro BTO gpu options.

Or release an iMac Pro with one. And that would be a compelling machine.

The momentum will be shifting to AS products real soon.

So is now the time to buy a Mac Pro for all that money?

Even if Intel had 'new' cpus to go into it we'd still have to wait for Apple to offer them in product. Which they seem to be increasingly on their own 'bus' on product cycles compared to the PC industry.

Thanks. Do you think it would be best to get the entry level GPU Radeon pro 580x option for the Mac pro with a view to upgrading when the RDNA2 is released soon ?

Most likely won't be a major update any time soon but here's MacRumors guide:

If you really want it. Then I'd go entry GPU.

Then get the RDNA2 when it's released.

There's every chance they will. I don't see any reason why not. Unless the politics of the AS transition let the Mac Pro wither on the vine in the meantime. The RDNA2 is going to be compelling.

And far more worthy of the Mac Pro. (If they decide to offer the BTO for the RDNA2.)

...and the iMac Pro. (If they update it.)

The RDNA2 is set for paper launch (at least?) on the October 28th. For the PC market at least. Or this October. Watch out for it.

Thanks so there’s a chance they’ll offer it on their Apple store as a seperate purchase that you can plugin to your system later on ?

There's a chance they will. Eg. As a module you can plug in..?

I think so. We don't have 'that long' to find out.

The RDNA2 launch is upon us.
