Is now the time to buy a Mini?

I was hoping for a discount on a Mini on black Friday, but no luck. Anyway, I'm still looking to purchase a "late 2005" 1.5Ghz model, but I'm confused as to why this model has not yet been announced (still clearing 1.42Ghz stock, or laying low before an Intel model is introduced?). Assuming I can get a 1.5Ghz Mini, and even though the Intel models may be coming soon in the new year is this still a reasonable time to buy? Any predictions on how the new Intel models will perform compared to the existing 1.5Ghz, used mainly for email, Office, iphoto?

Any mini will handle those apps just fine and since there's no way of telling just how fast (or reliable) the Intel ones will be, let alone when they'll be available, I say go for one now.

Thanks. I'm currently using my faithful G4 350MZ Powermac, 640mb RAM, 32mb VRAM, which I find a little slow using Panther (frequent beachballs). Will a new Mini be noticably faster?

Definitely, especially if you load it up with ram.

Even with 512MB RAM (stock) it should be extremely faster than his current machine. The huge processor difference will make up for the slightly lower RAM.

Here's what I'm doing... I have a Bondi Blue iMac G3 in my room. I'm trying to replace the Bondi Blue iMac with a Mac Mini, but after seeing Front Row on the newest iMac's, I decided I better wait. Now, this is my opinion because I want Front Row and as far as my needs are concerned, a Intel machine isn't all that important. Just Front Row...

I'm hoping Apple at least releases Front Row as a standalone product or adds it to the iLife package (with a remote!) if a Mac Mini doesn't included Front Row.
