Hi All,

I’m thinking about diving in and getting my 1st MacBook, for productivity keyboard work.

I come from windows excel, so using ‘Numbers’ on the ipad, using a magic keyboard, was bit of a shock and not as easy to quickly work with.

I imagine ‘Numbers’ on the Ipad has been optimised for touch screen work, not some much for keyboards. But as I say I’m using a magic keyboard and would prefer to simply stay using that keyboard UI.

Sooo... thinking around the apps I can use for spreadsheets:

Coming onto the Macbook M1s - is ‘Numbers‘ more keyboard UI friendly than on Ipad? Or is it exactly the same UI as on the IPad?

Hope you can advise.

Regards
Martin

Bump.

Be great to be able to create clever Numbers spreadsheets, that are formatted well to use on tiny mobile phones, then can be translated to proper tables on the Mac etc.

Kind regards
Martin

I use Numbers mainly for sheets I don’t have to share with anyone, typically. I’m certainly not a power user, nor am I an Excel power user either. Numbers does work somewhat differently to Excel - in some ways frustratingly, in others the refreshingly. For most tasks, I would probably choose Numbers given the option, ditto for Pages. As I said, I’m not a power user - I do data comparisons, some stats, plots, trends, curve-fitting, etc. Finally, it is a lot prettier than Excel.

I do find the Mac version better than the iOS version, that is for sure.

Why not try the online version, or better yet, the real thing in a store (if open), or on a friends Mac? It’s really the only way to see how you’ll get on with Numbers.

I find that of all the office apps, spreadsheets translates the worst on a touch interface. Numbers is much more usable on the Mac than the iPad in my opinion, although Numbers is a much simpler spreadsheet than Excel.

I use it on both with no real issues. On the iPad Pro I use the Apple Keyboard (Magic Pad?) from several years ago. I don't really try to use it via the touch screen. Used Excel for many years at work but for at-home use Numbers is great (and free and constantly updated). Hope this helps.
