Hi all,

My father was updating iOS on his iPad Mini 4 over the air when it froze and began a never-ending reset loop. After shutting it down and restarting, the iPad was stuck on the 'plug into iTunes' screen, similar to this:

Plugging into iTunes gives the option to update or restore, but either option ends up going through the motions and getting stuck at 'Verifying updated iPad software' stage in iTunes, and on the iPad the apple logo with an empty progress bar below it:

I took it into Apple and they tried similar steps and say that it's a goner. My question is: Is there any other option that I might try to snap it out of this situation and either get back into the iPad or be able to restore the iPad?

The alternative is to scrap it or spend $$ to replace it like-for-like. But considering it's barely 2 years old, this does not sit well with me, plus the tech is now outdated.

I read about software such as reiboot and the like - are they legit and would they work in this instance? Any other alternatives?

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I don’t know the software you mentioned but you could try to reset it from a different computer to see if that makes a difference (although the Apple folks might have tried that already).

Many thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, we've tried both Mac and PC with no success. At this moment, with nothing to lose, I'm open to all ideas, no matter how extreme :)

(I'm not even sure I can trade it in with Apple for Apple Gift Cards as it won't 'boot up'?)

Update: No luck, unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion, Tom. I tried recboot and also 3utools. After further reading online, it seems most likely to be a hardware failure, so it's a lost cause I think.

I wonder if it has any trade in value... I'll check with Apple

I have the same issue, all this happened during the update to iOS12, when I restore and update the unknown error (35) shows up during the verifying process. I brought it in to Apple and they said there was nothing they could do for me. They claim the code indicated a "hardware error" Funny that it was working perfectly fine before starting the update...........
