I want to export avi videos to work on my wife's ipod and was wondering if it's worth getting quicktime pro or simply using imovie to export to ipod compatible formats? I've tried handbrake and files won't work in itunes.

try something like iSquint that is free or visualhub that costs a little bit. Both are better than QT pro for simple conversions.
Since I invested in so much other "pro" software (FCP), I purchased QT Pro.
However, to answer your question, I would not say QT Pro is worth $30.
I think Apple is just being arses, as this software should be standard and free.
At least they finally made the full screen feature standard.

Absolutely not, isquint is very cool, i found a torrent for it awhile back. Quicktime pro isn't that great, certainly not worth 30 dollars.
I believe its worth more than $30 so for the money its a bargain. I use it all the time. Awesome value.
