why does real player ask you for credit card information to download a free version of their software for OSX?

anyone actually have Real?

above OS X image

the free player link is above the right hand side image on the page. In yellow. I know, its hard to find.

Real media on amazon?

Is it just me or does the real one player not work with the .ram streams used on amazon previews?

says there is no update available from RealOne to support this content.

What's the point?

BTW I just downloaded the latest version an hour ago.

I wouldn't install realplayer myself. It is MAJOR spyware - it'll even go to the point of searching for CC#s and such. And it's in their EULA, so when you hit agree, you agree to them doing that.

i'm sorry, but that's complete FUD. it doesn't say that realplayer will go look for CC# anywhere on EULA. the only reference to anything personal is communicating your personal ID you provide when you download.

I think that was a reference to the jukebox software that runs on Windows. It was found to be constantly in communication with RealNetworks. RealPlayer was examined and was found to be clean.

I hate REAL even more than MS. Can't really explain why. I resent the difficulty the put you through to download the free player and (in windows, at least, which I have to use at work) it is always popping up and trying to get you to do things.

Maria Cantwell's politics also bug me, but that's a purely personal thing.
