I tried a number of the demo iPhone units at my local Apple store and was quite disappointed - it seemed like it took forever to render a typical page in Safari using WIFI- for example, msnbc.com. And I made sure that they were on WIFI, not cell data connection. 30 secs or so to load the home msnbc.com page. Was there a problem at this location, or is this typical? My three year old PocketPC renders the pages far faster!. (And I'm an Apple fan).

That's a location problem. Actually the Apple Store tends to be overloaded with too many users using the same hub.

So I would try it at home and it will be a zillion times faster.

I used an iPhone with a very fast and secure web page and it loaded in about 2-3 seconds. Just barely slower than my mac at home. It's blazing fast, and then you realize it's a phone, and it just seems that much cooler.

At home Wifi loads as fast as an older computer. I think the CPU is the limiting factor. It not bad at all, just not as fast as a top of the line desktop/laptop. I happy surf the web from the couch on it.

Browsing over WiFi on the iPhone is extremely fast. Even Engadget review says that the browsing speed was slow, but it must have been their unit or something because on my iPhone, almost any webpage loads up within 5 seconds....thats good yea? ;)

ditto. my iPhone on WiFi at home and at work SCREAMS. maybe a tad slower then my MacBook but still plenty fast. instead of leaving my MacBook in front of me while watching tv i now just leave my iPhone sitting next to me. perfect for surfing during commercials or goin thru emails.

That's good to hear - I left that Apple store (Mayfair Mall, WI) thinking that people were crazy to buy an iphone with that kind of safari response times.

Yeah check and make sure it was using WiFi as well. I think they tend to be overloaded. On launch day I used a demo and it was really slow.

At my house it is not like that at all.
