So ... a I'm beating my had against a bring wall. I'm ready to buy MBP but the yellowing thing has got me fluttered. I've yet to see one that doesn't pass the yellowing test (on this thread). I've been to two apple stores and compusa and all the floor models have the bottom square yellow (buy the way I have tested on older 2.16 MBP and it does not have the yellowing).

So what is a guy to do? Is it safe to buy one? Is the current crop of laptop coming out with yellow or are they getting the issue resolved and I should go to the apple store this weekend and buy? Thanks!

I wouldn't buy right now. There is just toooooo many problems with the screens. Why not just wait until the Leopard release?

I doubt you HAVE to have it right now. Just wait until the new OS release and don't worry about the headaches of sending back faulty units. Give it a little more time, and the kinks will be worked out.

:D

I've returned two MBPs with yellow tint on the bottom of the screen. I decided to get a refund and wait to see if Apple addresses this. From what I've read on this forum, it's still affecting enough units to make it an expensive lottery -- both in cost and in time spent exchanging the MBP. So I'll wait.

I understand your dilemma. You hate to be dropping two grand on a new laptop and have to worry about returning it because of a QC defect that should have been ironed out in manufacturing by now. All I can tell you is that my 2.2GHZ SR came equipped with an LG glossy display that is pixel perfect and not the slightest bit yellow. I got it yesterday after ordering from Apple's online store two weeks ago. My advice would be either find an Apple store that will let you open the laptop up and inspect before buying (and I honestly don't know how amenable they are to that), or do what I did and order online in the hopes that buying "from the factory" increases your chances of getting a newer one with better QC. As for me, I have no regrets. This is easily the best computer I've ever owned.
