I'm curious about a scientific issue.
In "The Night Before Christmas" Clement Moore says
We know that elves are small. That's why having Will Ferrell as an oversized elf made the movie "Elf" funny.
So I'd like to know whether Clement Moore meant that Santa is a real elf (in which case Santa's helpers at the mall are too big), or if Moore was using the word "elf" in some figurative way I'm not aware of.
In "The Night Before Christmas" Clement Moore says
He had a broad face, and a little round belly
That shook when he laugh'd, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf
And I laugh'd when I saw him in spite of myself
But when I'm at the mall asking Santa's helper for a new Mac Pro, he's not a little person. That shook when he laugh'd, like a bowl full of jelly.
