I have an Ipad Pro M4 11’’ and an HP e45c G5 44’’ monitor with 5120 x 1440 resolution. When I connect the iPad to the external monitor, I get correct resolution and aspect ratio (confirmed in the monitor info panel). However, the scaling is very large - the Dock, UI, and default text in all apps are huge. While I can adjust scaling on the iPad screen to use more space and smaller text, there is no such setting for the external monitor. It seems that the OS is using the width of the monitor to set the scaling. When I activate the dual virtual display function of the monitor (built in), I get two mirror images of the ipad external display, and now the UI elements are half the size! So in principle the ipad should be able to support a smaller scaling, but this is just not implemented. I couldn’t find any information on this so hoping someone here might have tested it - does this get any better in the iPadOS 18? It seems such a small thing, but I have found posts going back 2 years complaining about this.

I have had the same issue with my iPad pro 13 M4 and ultrawide monitor’s (I have two different makes of monitor at home and in the office).

I’ve just installed the latest public beta of ipadOS 18 and unfortunately there is still no “morespace” option available for the monitor and the windows are still unnecessarily massive.

The crazy thing if I use Safari and scale the text down, it’s very clear so there is no resolution issues.

Disappointing... Yes, I can scale the text of browsers just fine to the same scaling that my macbook has for that monitor. But most of the UI remains huge for everything else. Come on Apple! Can't be that hard. I guess they don't sell ultrawides so they don't care.

Yah but lets be honest if it scales proper on a Mac iPad OS should be able to do that too especially how they advertise “docking“ the thunderbolt capable iPad Pro’s albeit with Apple Displays but still

Of course it should. It's probably just a case of "No one has yet realized it's a problem" or just a niche community so not high priority to fix.

It is indeed just an issue of ultrawide monitors. When I connect it to my 65'' TV, the scaling is fine. They should just take into account the aspect ratio, and not scale just based off the width. It's so silly that this is how it is implemented to begin with. Is no one at Apple doing QA?
