Ok, so I have a MBP and my girlfriend has a MB. Apple, in its infinite wisdom, has created powerblocks for these two machines that look identical, though mine is 85 watt and hers is only 60. Is there going to be a meltdown if we accidently plug the MBP block into the MB? should I paint one of the connectors or something? whadya think??:confused:
 
I am currently running my friend's MacBook Pro on my MacBook power brick since his is all F-ed up. It runs just fine (takes much longer to recharge) but fine. As far as running the MacBook on the MBP power brick.... I would say it would be ok for a short amount of time, but not for extended periods.
 
You shouldn't have any problems with the 85w in the MB, but 60w in the MBP might cause a problem because its not getting enough power.

Check support.apple.com, I know there's a doc for it.
 
I've heard that the 60W in the MBP would cause it to not charge while using it, as in all the power that's coming in has to go into running the computer, and there's no extra to charge the battery.

That's correct (ish!) :)

There's an Apple knowledgebase article somewhere about this very subject. Basically, the MBP supply will charge and power a MB fine. The MB's supply will power but apparently not charge the MBP.

In my tests, my MBP with charge (but very slowly) using the MB's supply. There's no danger using them interchangeably.

I know that I just said that things seem fine with my MB power supply hooked up to my buddy's MBP, but I have noticed some stability issues that may or may not have to do with the power brick. Games crashing, the OS hard locked once, and another time the backlight started freaking out and flickering, like a CRT with the wrong refresh rate. I just replaced that inverter too.
 
sounds like it probably won't kill it, but may cause some strange issues. does anyone have a link to the apple knowledge base article that addresses this issue? I tried searching, but none of the search strings i tried pulled up anything relevant. thanks!
 
The MB will only use the 60W that it needs to run normally, so using the 85W adapter won't hurt anything. As others have said, the reverse (60W on the MBP) will probably lead to problems because it won't be able to get the full 85W.
