The mac app store is a great idea, prices are a little high sometimes, but great idea. Now that lion will be a download in the Mac app store, will I get my updates like I do when apps are updated in ios? Or will it be like ilife 11 when I bought it from the app store but software updates did update...

Just wanted to hear some of your opinions.

It’ll be like iLife ’11 for now, you buy/download Lion from MAS and get updates via Software Updates.

It is possible that Apple’d move OS + bundled apps into the MAS later on but who knows.

The Lion download from the App store is not the Lion OS but an installer program for the Lion OS. So it would be possible to update the installer via the App store, but not the result of running the installer.

In other words, if the App store would be used, you would have to follow up with an upgrade install of the entire OS! This was done going from DP3 to DP4, for instance, but would be incredibly user unfriendly for a general release.

Currently true, yes, but they COULD build OS updating into the Mac App Store if they wanted to. Once you install Lion, you could receive and install 10.7.x updates via the MAS just like with regular apps.

Not saying they will do this, just that there's nothing stopping them.
