Hello,

I am aware of the Steam Cloud and that some games can be saved and loaded between PC & Mac. However I don't know how you are suppose to know which games can and can't be saved cross platform without trial and error. Some clarification would be nice.

I read somewhere that even if the Game is listed as 'Steam Cloud' and 'Cross Platform' that it does not necessarily mean that the saved games are cross platform.

Can anyone confirm for me whether saved games for the new Lego Games released this year are cross platform with the cloud? (Or alternatively with a manual transfer?)
Maybe 'edddeduck' from Feral Interactive can chip in?

Obviously this is not possible with non-steam versions but I have no idea how Steam actually handles saved games in the cloud.

Thanks.

I can't confirm about the LEGO games, but can confirm everything else.

Supporting Steam Cloud doesn't necessarily mean Mac->PC sync. It could just mean PC->PC and Mac->Mac.

Sometimes a manual save transfer is possible. It's often unsupported officially, but the publisher might still offer some tips on how to do it. Never hurts to ask.

There isn't always an easy way to tell what's supported. Sometimes you can find that information in a Readme or news item, but sometimes you might have to ask the publisher directly.

I'm sure edddeduck will comment later. He's pretty amazing at helping people out here. But Feral also has a great support team so don't be afraid to email them directly.

I agree, it would be far better if Steam could be more explicit about this. (Unless they already are and i haven't noticed?)

Thanks a lot for your helpful post. I will drop a line to Feral Interactive and see if edddeduck and/or anyone else has anything to chip in.

If the Lego games are like Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut (another Feral ported title), then your saves will carry over between Mac and Windows.

I cant speak for our buddies at Feral, but our stance is likely very similar.

We disable cross platform multiplayer while a title is in active development. The reason for this is if there is a version mismatch with another platform (Windows releases a patch for example and the Mac is a couple of weeks behind) then that cloud save file can become corrupted and you could lose everything. As gamers, we cant allow this as we feel its the worst possible thing that could happen.

Once a title is "completed" as in there are no or very few more patches planned, its safe to enable cross platform save games again.

I know that many of Feral's titles have it enabled, not sure on Lego but Feral is really good about enabling it asap.

All of the OS X games I've played have been able to use my Windows saves and vice versa over Steam Cloud. Although I'm sure that there will be a handful of games that won't be able to do this for some reason or another.

Yes all LEGO games use Steam Cloud. In fact most games Feral have on Steam support SteamCloud between Mac and PC. There are a few exceptions (we always aim for cross platform but sometimes it's not possible for example if the PC code uses some custom Windows only encryption) but generally they all support Mac/PC if possible.
