That would make no sense to me. I understand a simple computer
tablet-like device running Mac OS, check your e-mails, simple
text editing, this kind of things.
But running iPhone OS would make no sense at all.

Nobody really knows at this point
We will all just have to wait and see

I don't see why it's hard to believe. The tablet is most likely going to be a larger iPhone just without phone. So the iPhone OS would be the closest match

Most of us around here guessed this a year ago because it's the logical choice for Apple.

Since then it's only become more and more clear.

You declined to explain what doesn't make sense to you, so I can't really respond with any points.

EDIT: You do understand that the graphics will be re-done to fit this particular device, right? It's not like you'll have the same 4x5 vertical app-grid on this thing. It will look different even though it'll be the same OS.

I personally want to know what the purpose of a tablet is all together. Seems kind of pointless to me. We have iPhones and MacBooks, what is this thing gonna do so great, that neither of those devices can? Guess we'll have to wait and see though...

Probably something to compete with all the ebook readers comming out like the kindle etc...
And also probably like a netbook but with touchscreen interface.
Personally I wouldnt buy it but many others probably would.

I think it's supposed to have two main audiences:

1) Those who don't own smartphones or computers, but would like email, web, reading, picture viewing and shared family notes.

2) Those who want a converged device for traveling or just because.

All I know is... I'll probably HAVE to have one whether I need it or not.

It's also going to be way too expensive and lack most of the basic features. It's probably going to be locked down tight so you have to hack it.

Oh well.

If you're trying to make a very easy-to-use device that will be appealing to people who already like the iPhone, then it's a no-brainer that you would use the iPhone OS. It also makes it much easier for all the app developers to quickly have their products available for the new device.

Assuming, of course, that it is a tablet and it does use a variant of the iPhone OS.

Wow, are we going to have to relive TheSpaz tablet experience much like the iPhone?

Dude, the tablet won't run 2.21

I thought you had a problem with the iPhone costing too much, so why would you buy a "whateverit'scalledTablet" if you really don't need one? Unless you're joking, of course.

The iPhone costs too much for me because of the PLAN. If the tablet has no plan, it would be just like having a computer and I'd be into that.

Whatever this tablet ends up being... I'm pretty sure I'll want one.

Agree. To me it would only make sense as an ultra portable
netbook/Macbook Air substitute. But if this is an ebook reader,
there is plenty of those already. I guess an ebook reader on steroids,
with email and web browsing. Still kind of pointless.
Plus I would never commit to any phone company just to have
a tablet, are you serious? $100/month for something I would use
only while traveling once a year?
What I think Jobs wants is a modern newspaper, something people
take with them when they take the subway every day...

The purpose is to provide a convenient web browsing experience in the bathroom. You'll see. All the speculation on the naming of it will be wrong. It will be called the iPoop. Apple will also sell disinfectant wipes as consumable accessories. They will obviously be called iWipe.

You just wait and see. Just wait. Wait.
