it just seems like everything is getting faster and faster. The average computer user doesn't do intensive tasks on a computer, and it just seems like todays computers are complete overkill for the very basic computer user. it seems like someone can buy a computer and pretty much use it forever now a days, if they are just doing basic stuff.

also monitor sizes. we are now moving to 24" as standard and that already seems big enough. Then there is the 30" monitors for the professionals.

it's like monitors are jsut going to get bigger and bigger and bigger. 24" already huge. Are we going to be using 60" computer monitors in the future? lol

Want to see the future of computers?

Look at the iPhone.

Now fast forward to January 2010.

There you go.

I middle age. I need a bigger monitor. But perversely, my iPhone screen is tiny. As for computer speed, we are an impatient society that wants everything 5 minutes ago. It's not enough to have a fast computer, now we want to take it with us (e.g. notebooks to netbooks to smart phones). My presbyopic eyes cant take much more miniaturization.

Our computer processors right now will be in iPhones in 8 years.

Cripes I hope not, I dn't want to have to wear fire retardent pants or carry around a thermal plate.

But you are correct the processor properties we are experieincing in out full blown notebooks will be common place in phones, but I think in 3 to 4 years.
