I am considering to buy a new imac. But ram priceses are too high on the Apple's website. So i want to buy my rams myself. I found that ram:

Is this compatible with the latest imacs which currently on sale right now?

I think it is, but I have so-so experience with Corsair. I'd suggest RAM from Apple OEM suppliers, such as Crucial/Micron, Elpida, Hynix or Samsung.

Best,
Magnus

I've always used Crucial RAM with excellent results. They have a RAM selector that will match your MAC with the proper Memory sticks.

Im getting a MCA cpu core error when starting mine with OWC ram that is supposedly compatible. After the machine finally boots up with the stock and OWC ram it only runs at 2133MHZ and yet independently the stock and OWC work at 2666. I don't get it.

Weird.
You might be out of luck with DRAM chip lottery.

Yea. I’m just running the OWC 16gb. I may pick up another 16 from them at some point of the same exact ram. Fingers crossed it will work.

@pldelisle i been seeing people say 3200 speed ram work like this one here any reason to not get the 3200?

Yes There is a reason. If you go to Crucial website this is not the configuration they recommend as a compatible upgrade for the new iMac.

They recommend:

Crucial 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) DDR4-2666 SODIMM Memory for Mac

CT2K16G4S266M

question, if I buy the 8gb iMac, can I upgrade it myself to 128mb? meaning do all of them come with the 4 slots available?

(looks like crucial does not list 32gb sticks as compatible?

so amazon has this (BTW, what's single rank vs double rank?), not sure this can work

and I see OWC has this

any thoughts for 128gb?

As said in the first post, these sticks are not referenced in Crucial compatibility list for Apple systems. But these shares the same specs as the other kit. So it should work.

Looking at some RAM options on amazon.ca (I'm in Canada).

I know from Crucial's website that the following is officially supported for iMac 2020:
  • CT2K16G4S266M

This is the 32GB kit on amazon for $200, but out of stock:

This is another 32GB kit on amazon, in stock, and $170. Not the same part/model number, but the specs seem identical:

In some reviews I see people using them on 2019 iMacs without issue, and I'm sure it would work fine. But curious how strictly we should follow advice to use officially supported option.

This is what I got. I got it on sale for $200 each. The only difference with the official specs is a lower latency (CL16 vs CL19). I have my fingers crossed that won't make a difference. I get my iMac next week so we shall see.

I strongly advise to take a certified kit. It’s usually not more expansive and when sh*t happens you have support and just not simply “this memory module is not in our compatibility list for your computer, sorry”
