I need some help with this one. My desk sits in front of 3 large windows that bring in a lot of sunlight. I don't use an external monitor but have been interested in upgrading from my 2019 16in MacBook Pro to an M2.

I have seen conflicting information as to whether or not in SDR, the screen is actually any brighter. Some online reviewers have noted you are still limited to 500nits similar to the 2019 MacBook Pro.

Can anyone comment as to whether the actual screen is brighter or not?

Thank you

By default, it's not brighter. But you can use apps to "trick" the OS into believing it's displaying HDR content, thus allowing the brightness of the display to go beyond the limit Apple set.

The downside is then, of course that when the display is like that, HDR contents may not "look right".
