Is the 24 inch iMac discontinued?

Yea, it was discontinued when the 21.5" and 27" came out last october. Best place to look would be ebay, craigslist or kijiji if you specifically want the 24"
I'm from Canada as well and I've been keeping my eye on the refurbished page almost daily and noticed that once or twice a week the refurbished store would show 20" and 24" models at good discounts (~35%). They wouldn't last long though and, again, I only saw them once a week so you'd need to check once or twice a day if you're interested in that model specifically.
With the updates, who knows if they'll still show up but it's worth keeping your eye on.

theres a 27" up there which is cheaper and better specs. going for a 24" now would be totally pointless
If you can fit a 24" on your desk, you're 99% likely to be able to fit a 27" on your desk too.
They are the exact same height (20.5 ins), the 27" is just 3.2 ins wider.

Too big doesnt mean it doesnt fit in the space on your desk or whatever.
It means its TOO BIG.

The last high end 24" iMacs had a 2.93 Core 2 Duo and 3.06 Core 2 Duo(which was equivalent to 3/4 previous 21.5" and 27" generation processors, they were actually slightly better since they had 6MB of L2 cache) both with a $50 option for an ATI Radeon 4850(Which is equivalent in power to the 5750(5850M) Apple is using now). Calling them slow and old is laughable at best. They also didn't have the yellow tinge problem.
a Screen is NEVER too big my friend, wether is for TV or computer. I believe that on computing or technology in general going back doesn't make any sense.
