Is the 27" too much?

So today I visited an Apple store and was in front of the 27" for awhile testing it out.

Anyone think it is too large when they get in front of it?

Standing next to it seems ok but I wonder what it does on the eyes when you are eye level at a desk?
 
You get used to it and eventually you're ruined for anything smaller.

When I first got my 30" ACD I got vertigo trying to use it. Now I think it's too small and I envy my cow-orkers who have two of them.
 
With 27" to 30" it is easy to keep two full sized web pages, documents, etc open at the same time. I am used to a 30" and now stepping down to 27". The experience of a large monitor is one of high productivity and you do get used to the size. Eventually, you may wish for something larger!
 
27" is fantastic size, can just chuck whatever you want up and you're good. It has ruined using my MBP a bit, but the portable side takes that up a notch.

I am thinking of getting a second monitor for my iMac. I just cant work out if I actually need it, or getting it for the wank factor.
 
I run dual 27 inch monitors and love it. I could use dual 30's but 27s are working just fine. Its great having Maya and Photoshop open together. Makes texturing much easier.

YES: I had an issue with mine and had to down size .. Click me to see my posts on the subject.
NO: Great for TV and Gaming where you are sitting further back.
NO: Great for a under 20 year old and people with supervision and thous think everything bigger is therefore better.
YES: I read a lot and the larger screen was more like a bulletin board .. I found it kinda doable but not as pleasant or personal as say a large book.
NO: I guess if you normally watch your large screen TV from two to three feet away you would be fine .. I only speak for myself :eek:

I was doing that also recently, the 27" is too hard for me to resist, definitely going that route, now I just have to decide which configuration of iMac I will purchase. I am planning on a newer model refurb since many here have stated they are a good option.
 
Funny because my experience was completely different, when I tried them in an Apple Store, I found the 21" model to be too small, and 27" was the perfect choice for me.

I am also trying to figure out the difference between the iMac 21.5-inch: 3.2GHz i3 and 3.60GHz i5 :confused:

I bought the 27" i5 quad and we used it at home:
I am 5.4' tall and found the height to be one of the biggest issues especially when somewhat slumped and sitting close as I do.
I either had to do the crazy eyes or move my head all the time to say look and my browsers tabs.
My husband is much taller and he did not have such an issue.

I will agree that the 21.5" seems a little small to me too but at least I can function with it Ok .. I will also say that the 27" was really great for watching movies on :)
 
it all comes down to personal preferences , some like hughes screens where you get lost , i prefer multiple smaller screens , if the new 21.5 would have a white case and matte display i would eventually buy it and add another 21.5 inch monitor but matte display is a must , i just have a hatred against mirrors on my desk , i want displays , as i am more interested in whats displayed on the screen rather in whats reflected on it , so i am forced to buy older iMac's and dont mind as they are still pretty white instead of funeral grey...but maybe its possible to airbrush the alloy or getting it anodized without interfering with their function as huge heatsink and shoehorn a matte display inside :confused:
 
In short, no. I used to use one and the large display was great! It allowed me to see multiple windows side-by-side without having to switch between spaces or minimizing (PC term) them. I never felt it was "too much"
 
Before I got this badboy, I thought the screen would be to big. Like, why would I need a 27"?
But now, i've gotten used to it and i can't see myself with a smaller screen actually.
 
ok everyone seems to like two websites or other things on one display ,
but then if you need more things open you still have to put windows in the dock so whats all the fuss about , i dont have to :p
i have only a 17 inch iMac plus one external 17 inch monitor connected via mini dvi and another 17 inch connected via usb using a usb graphic adapter
and my iMac G3 700mhz
all i need at the moment here in uk , but as i soon go back to germany beginning next year there are waiting
12 Mac's for me which i shipped over already ,so absolute no problem to display at least 14 websites at once side by side and still space for the odd app like photoshop

and none of my apps would require a i7 processor as minimum requirement
not even photoshop or final cut ..they dont even ask for a intel :confused:

i have no problems opening multiple apps at once , so what i did want to say i would rather go with the 21.5 iMac and add another 21.5 monitor via MDP and another 21.5 monitor via a usb graphic adapter if i really would need more screen space and a new iMac..still cheaper if you dont require a i7 for gaming :confused:

hmm i had to ,i switched to mac and did want all of them from 1997 onwards at least and i dont believe in displaying them only , they had a been build for purpose to they deserve to get a purpose ,and one Mac feels so lonely they need company
 
I have a 23" pc screen and a 27" imac and i am ruined on the 23 because of the imac. I love it. It is fantastic for having mulitple windows open and multitasking. The real estate is awesome and you cant go wrong. You can always resize your windows to make them smaller if they are overwhelming for you and also the extra resolution is very nice. I feel like I can get so much more accomplished because of the screen and also at how good the macs are for multitasking.

That big beautiful display makes me look forward to looking at anything on it. I actually get excited about using it. I would not feel the same if I had a 21.5 screen. Pictures look fantastic and I love looking at them on that screen.

It all really depends on on the size of the room where you want to use it, in a real large room it will look great, in a small room like a closet it will be massive.

And I suppose the size of the desk as well, you're not gonna want it 12 inches away like a 19 inch monitor, maybe 36 inches or something, I tried it at my local apple store and was perfect at that distance.

Also take in to account what you're gonna use it for, just web browsing, emails and music? then maybe the 21 inch would be better but if you're after the full multimedia spectrum as well photo and movie making then the 27 inch if perfect.

Will get mine in 2011 once I've saved enough stirling silver. Photography is my hobby and this size is what i need to display more than one pic at a time and when I'm not doing that, it will hang on the wall for movies.

Well in the end it's your choice me old mucker, and my misses says "The bigger the better" :D

In practical terms? The 3.6 GHz machine is about twelve percent faster at the base clock speed, offers Turbo Boost (where the CPU shuts down unused cores to boost the speed of the active ones - in this case, up to 3.86 GHz), and will suit anyone who needs high processor speeds very well.

Other than that, the machines are identical in terms of RAM, HDD, GPU, and so on. Go for the i5 if your programs like a speedy CPU, and if they don't really need one, the i3 is more than sufficient.

No way you would need it. but if i had the money god knows I'd have two
 
I found the 27" too big for me. Im running 2 22" 16:10 monitors but i like 2 seperate screens to different apps open with a gap between them.

personally again, if i had 2 screens, id have probably prefer a 16:9 format, the fact that there are 2 monitors would defeat the object of me having a cinema format monitor.
