This is really pissing me off. Normally i have WiFi turned off on the iPhone so when I come to use the hotspot over WiFI with my laptop, I turn WiFI on on the iPhone, then the hotspot and then I start my laptop.

Sometimes it'll connect automatically, sometimes it won't. It *NEVER* connects if I had the laptop in sleep or hibernate mode and wake it up though. An example; I've got the laptop connected to my iPhone's WiFI and hotspot and it's working AOK. I close the lid on my laptop, it goes to sleep, I open the lid on my laptop, it's lost the connection to my iPhone, after a while it still hasn't reconnected and if I open the network list the iPhone is not listed. If I turn the laptop wifi on or off, it still doesn't connect. I I shut down or restart the laptop it STILL will not connect.

If however I go into the iPhone, turn the hotspot off, then back on again, oh lookey the laptop suddenly sees it again and reconnects (though I have to open the list of available networks for it do so).

It's because of that last part that I don't know if it's the laptop being a dick or if it's the iPhone. Just now, I had WiFI on and hotspot on but th elaptop wouldn't connect so I even tried forgetting the network in Windows8, and then manually entering it again. But after doing that, it STILL REFUSES to connect, but this time even after turning hotspot on and off it wouldn't work, I had to turn off the wifi connection on the iPhone an dback on, then the hotspot back on before the laptop would connect.

So... There's a problem here somewhere but I don't know if it's the laptop or the iPhone (and I'm inclined to think it's the iPhone).

Before anyone ignores my question entirely and says "just plug the iPhone into the laptop" I can't. And I no I'm not explaining why, this post is already too long winded, I just can't.

Edit: Thanks all for the responses and kind words of wisdom. You're all such great help on these forums, I know every time I post on MR that I can expect nothing but the best and most poignant responses from some of the very best of the Mac community...

Oh wait, I'm sorry, I must have confused these forums for some that were actually useful...
