Is The Apple 20" Display Any Good? Help!

Hello everyone!
So I just got $460 for my birthday and I'm itching to buy an accessory for my Powerbook. I am getting used the the tiny 12" screen, but I still want something bigger for projects that use large photos and such. I want to buy a 19" (20" would be great) display, and I since Apple makes one, I figured I would save up for it. I've heard that there are better and cheapter displays, but all the ones that I have seen look pretty ugly when compares to Apple's display. Do you guys know any good displays that will match the greatness of the Powerbook's design? Should I just keep saving and buy the Apple display?

EDIT: Also, can the Apple Display work as a TV? Like, for cable?

yeah they're great, i was in the exact same situation back when i had my 12" pb.. it was a great buy, no dead pixels, huge display, and if u get the mandatory apple keyboard and mouse then its almost like u have a whole new computer
and as for the tv question, i run an elgato eyetv mini thing and max screen it-it's way better than my 12 yr old 14" tv..
so yes.. get one..
(i know there's cheaper options-but they're ugly)

the apple displays are wonderful and all, but why spend the extra cash? you could easily pick up a larger display than 20" for still under the price apple wants. it would be nice to go all apple, but for something like $300 extra? give me a break

You should consider a ViewSonic VX. They're pricey but far outclipse the Apple display in terms of quality.

Get that and a mac mini while your at it for below apple's price.

Unless you are bent on getting the Apple design, your money will go much further elsewhere. For example, the Dell 20" Widescreen LCD is often priced well under $400 (today it's $367) and has the same resolution, is brighter, has better contrast and pixel response time. It also has multiple display inputs, which the Apple display lacks. They look pretty sharp too.

The pricetag on the Apple display is a joke. There's nothing "pro" about its lack of features or its performance.

Stupid Question- if apple charges more for their displays, why don't they include inputs like A/V, S video, HD, and just make it a TV/monitor? For the cost, and think it would be very justified to make it a TV...

1. Apple likes things to be simple and neat so having more than one cable coming out of the back would be an issue for them.

2. The lack of features on the ACD is because it is time for an upgrade.

Why on Earth is it a potential issue for Apple if a home user wants to use more than one computer/video source on a single monitor? If you want to keep it simple with one cable, then just use one video source. Then you have only one cable and a second port which you never have to look at. A second VGA or DVI input shouldn't complicate anything.

If we're at the point where a second input is so confounding that it deters potential customers, then we're starting to think like AOL.
