Hi,

Just wondering if any beta tester have seen the custom domain name feature on iCloud in the past week? If so, can you share the details of how it works? Apple has been very vague about it.

thank you!!

Speaking of Domain, I would like to understand the benefit of this.
I have a domain, with Microsoft 365 (hosted via GoDaddy). But, unsure what benefit Apple/iCloud would offer...

It doesn’t offer specific feature that for example Microsoft 365 offers. Its just that you can use custom domain name with your iCloud Mail account (if you use it).

EDIT: Only feature that I can think of is shared custom domain name for your family but not sure how it will work

Custom domain setup is available now in the beta by going to beta.icloud.com > Settings. Here's the instructions:

just got it working with a custom domain I use for testing. Works great and setup is very straightforward. Only caveat is that sending from the custom domain only works with iOS15. I can receive on my iPhone with iOS 14 but can only send from my custom domain using my ipad which is running the iOS 15 public beta. I will wait to migrate my main email address until iOS is released. But glad to know it works very well so far.

That‘s not straight forward enough for most people, but then again it‘s also not widely communicated as a feature available.

Set it up earlier this morning, took like 5 DNS settings.
Did you receive the instructions by email as Apple said? I am still waiting on this email because it seems that there’s something in my DNS settings that is not working, I can’t complete step 4.

How do you transfer over your email?

Maybe this will help?

I did not get the instructions by mail but managed to set up. My only issue is that I was able to set up the email addresses I use, however it would not let me set up the family member emails (on same domain) as it said "These are used in another Apple ID"

The email instructions are exactly what's in the screenshot I pasted above. I don't have a custom domain to test with though so can't be more helpful than that.

No worries. Not a lot of info on Icloud+ and the "help" section does not include these features

What's funny is that it will let you add apple.com as a domain name. Of course you can't verify an email address using that domain, but funny that it allows it in the first place.

I had all DNS settings visible in the prompt.

That‘s how domains work. You prove ownership via DNS setups. Loads of domain services or host providers require you to add arbitrary TXT entries for easy verification.

Yes but @WildSky was saying it is funny they even allow apple.com to be entered. They easily could have made that an invalid entry.
