Just some food for thought really, even with competition from other players in the market Apple is proving to be ridiculously arrogant in their update schedules.

Imagine Apple is the only computer manufacturer in the world...

*Sigh*

Yes, Apple is being arrogant, because you know whats best for Apple and their execs and market analyzers don't have a ****ing clue what they are doing.

Give it a break mate. I'm also waiting for the new iMac. You don't see me starting threads about it though, eh? Quit moaning. You are acting like a 5 year old.

The current machines are stunning and fast enough for any purpose. The only reason I am hanging off is because I am not in desperate need and I'm curious.

Yes, just as my 386 is also stunning and fast enough for 386 usage. It is a one year old computer no matter how you wrap it.

I, too, have been waiting for a new iMac for a few months. I don't really NEED a new computer, so I can wait. My Mac mini does everything I need it for perfectly, but I just wanna eliminate desktop clutter (and the 17" 4:3 Dell display...) I'll probably give 'em 'til at least mid-August or so to release one before I buy one of the current ones.

The current ones are fine. I love the design, (I think it's one of the most elegant, if not THE most elegant computer ever made) and they are plenty fast enough. The only reason I'm waiting, really, is that I'm just anxious to see what the next iMac will be like. (if they'll redesign the case, drop the price, etc.)

So yeah, while I do wish they'd update 'em soon, I'm not in too big of a rush.

Well, the ugly design is 3 years old now, and the iMac's specs are falling behind, particularly in terms of pricing.

exactly

the current imac design, although getting on a bit, is still stunning.

and the imacs are still fast machines that could easilly handle all my computing needs

but as was said before, its a 1 yr old computer, end of really, and many people, like myself, are not prepared to pay 2006 prices for 2006 hardware. Knock a couple of hundred £££ off to reflect that then i would have bought it a while back, but been 10 months, no update, no price drop.

Really really hoping for the 24th or the 31st july but really just cant see it.

Sorry, forgot to include the mini, which is 2.5 years old now.

I totally agree with you. The specs aren't bad as they are right now, but it's becoming more and more overpriced for less-than-new hardware, especially with the mini grossly overpriced for a core duo. I'd be content with price drops (well, I'm not in the market for either computer...) at the least, but those seem unlikely too.

nope the imac and mini are NEVER going to be updated. in 10 years time when the macpro is running the new intel octo octo dual quad xeonphobe 19.33GHZ cards with 8TB gpu's the imac and mini will still be at what they are now......

no but seriously the imac will be upgraded sooner than u think, im not sure about the mini tho....very unsure as to whether they will continue it.

Apple reinforcement conditioning to get you to give in and buy an old imac:)

All this waiting and salivating over Tuesday morning store outages is starting to have the reverse effect on me. I am sick of the coming soon hype and the endless waiting for an imac. Oh, and before someone chimes in with "the imacs are still great speed demons just buy one", I am also sick of all the don't wait buy now Apple advice.

rant over

I'm going to wait for the new iMacs myself, but impatient people in the UK can get a very good deal on a standard 24" from Play.com - £999.99 (save £350 on the Apple Store price). Seems indicative that the updated iMac must be close though - Amazon in the UK have a 4-6 week wait on the same model.

Wow, that is very tempting - good link mate! I'm in the same boat as a lot of people; need a Mac, got money to burn, but waiting! I am seriously considering this though - not sure they're gonna hang around long!!

Except that the design is not ugly. Besides, that is actually subjective. I just can't see the point in there being more than one thread dedicated to moaning about the delay of new iMacs. I agree, I price drop at least for the meantime would be a great idea.

I'd been watching the price there before and initially the sale was ~£150-£200 off the RRP. It has gone up to the current level in the last few days I think. Hopefully indicative that there will be something from Apple soon.

Probably be updated tomorrow.. I remember the Apple store going off line on a Tuesday and nothing new appearing, however the following day the updates arrived. :)

Would they really release a redesigned iMac just by stealth-addition to the website? I mean, I can understand a lack of fanfare for little updates, but the general expectation is a completely new design, no?
