Is the Intel core 2 duo even going to stay in date that long?

Okay, so you all know the Imac, the new one, that's gray.. I am 14 and can't afford to purchase one at the apple store yet, so I'm going to buy one online that is the same model, but it has the intel core 2 duo, instead of the standard i3, because they stopped putting intel core 2 duo's in them a couple weeks ago. The macbook and mac mini have an INtel core 2 duo still.. and I was wondering, since apple is suddenly on the rage of making new products like crazy, like theres something new coming all the time.. that are these chips going to be out of date, or not going to be made anytime soon?

the only significant difference between the core 2 duo and core i3 is the
hyperthreading , means under certain circumstances and certain apps the processor becomes 2 more "virtual cores " means the i3 is a bit confused and believes it has 4 cores from time to time and only apps who can handle it will run faster another significant is the core i3 has its graphics inside the processor ,

the core 2 duos are still around in pc's and will be for the next couple years , because they are cheaper , use cheaper ram ok some might argue they are outdated and slow , they are not and you will still be able with them to upgrade next year to OSX lion

good thing since everyone thinks "oh i bought a core 2 duo last year and now i have a totally outdated obsolete system "
its just in their mind , but for you the good point is the core 2 duos come now down in price

To the other part of his question though. as he can't afford an iMac right now, yes, iMacs will soon all be based on at least Intel iX chips. The C2D will disappear from the Apple iMac line early next year.

That said, the previous poster is right. The C2D is just fine and no doubt will run Lion very nicely.

Apple stopped using Core 2 Duos in iMacs in July. Before that all but the high-end model came with Core 2 Duo. They are still very adequate CPUs
