Does anybody have any news about the iPhone making its way to Canada? I'm hearing all these reports about it appearing Europe and Asia but nothing in Canada.

Talked to a rep. here at a Mac store. He said that the iPhone will come to Canada by end of the year. He also said that Rogers prob. will be the carrier for it here in Canada. So we have to wait or buy an Unlocked one when some one cracks the code for it.

I travel alot to Europe and Asia, so for me a locked phone is no good.

I hope iPhone will come unlocked in the near future. Because i like to use my phone with any SIM card i want. I don't like to be stuck with contracts. Every phone i own is unlocked. Guess i will keep the LG Prada little longer.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Alright well if you talked to a rep then I guess that shine some light. I still might just purchase the phone and use it has a wifi ipod and internet device till someone finds a way to unlock it.

i will be travelling throughout the world during my university studies. if i have an iphone can i somehow change the number or something to the area i will be temporary living in so i can use it there?

I just talked to my business account rep and he all but guaranteed that the current iPhone definately WILL NOT be coming to Rogers in Canada.

The reason he gave me is they are upgrading their data network and only want phones with 3G. iPhone is 2G. This is odd since my current rogers blackberry is on the 2G Edge network... so take that reason for what it's worth.

Another reason it won't be coming is because of the massive amount of data it transmits (read $$$), and Rogers would have to find a way of supporting visual voice mail...

My rep also told me that other companies are offering Rogers "a much better deal" than Apple is to carry their "iPhone killers" instead. Apparently they are very very close to announcing something along these lines.

So I guess us Canadians will do what we've always done and keep watching, waiting and wishing.

lets hope not, i would HATE to see what kind of rediculous price apple will come up with.

rogers is charging $200 for 100MB of data
the iphone cost $600 USD, what is that in Canadian according to the "Apple Exchange rate" $900?

$900 + $100 (lets say its $100 because you get a "special rate") x 24mo

$3300 LOL rediculous, the exchange rate right now is $1USD = $1.05CAD, its like paying 5% tax to get to the USD from CAD.

rogers is rolling out HSDPA in all major cities, in Aug/OCT HSDPA will be avalible. sorry but if im paying hundreds of dollars i would rather prefer unlimited data at REAL broadband speeds. not dialup. my 10mbit internet connection costs me $45CAD/mo. HSDPA isnt even going to be 5mbit, most likely 1.8-3.6mbit

im so glad i bought a phone from over seas, #1 its cheaper, #2 its unlocked, #3 i have no manditory data plan, i just pay $25/mo for voice and use wifi because everywhere you go theres either legit hot spots or an "overlooked" AP

Where in Canada are you? I have to say, I have found open wifi to be a joke. It's so hard to find anything anywhere thats open for people to use. There are a few cafes etc , but by far they are few.

I hope this baby comes to Canada but at the same time screw data plans when the internet is so damn slow over EDGE. Even if I had that, I probably would barely use it just because of how slow it is.

I'll sit and wait for 2nd gen iPhone which should fix all these shortcomings :D

calgary AB, using a crappy kingston wifi "finder" doesnt work lol j/k.. well not really, those things are a joke.

use a REAL wifi scanner, Herecast Scanner + PDA

driving down my own street i see 6 COMPLETLY open networks, 4 of them arent even configured (no pwd, default name, etc)

downtown there are tons of locked ones, alot of open captive AP's, and maybe 1/10 unsecured, completly open.
