Is the Macbook build to "cheap"?

Hey. I am fairly certain the my next computer will be a Macbook. I am going wait for the next time they update so I can get a Macbook with Santa Rosa, LED screen, iLife 07 and Leopard! ( I can dream, right?)
The Macbook is a nice machine but I have my doubts. All my friends who has a Macbook has had a problem with it! The number of faulty units must huge!!
My impression is that the Macbook Pro doesn't have nearly as many problems! Is the build quality better? Different motherboard or total different internal structure? I saw somewhere that the Macbook Pro is build a different place than the Macbook....
Do "other" as in Dell, Snoy and H/P have a smaller percentage of faulty laptops?
So what's your opinion?

They are totally different machines. The MacBook has excellent build quality IMHO and I have no flaws on mine. It is much more solidly built then any Dell, Toshiba or HP I have owned in the past. Most of the kinks have been ironed out of the design. If you are waiting for Santa Rosa in a MacBook, you are in for a long wait.

For what it's worth, I work for a company that buys hardware in bulk from Dell, HP and Apple. This includes desktops as well as notebook/laptop equipment. Generally, they're ALL pretty bad, and in some cases with Dell, we've had failure rates of 33% and greater.

That said, I think Apple is criticized more for their issues because 1. they criticize others and harp on quality a lot, and 2. You pay a premium for Apple hardware, and so people expect a better track record from them.

As for the MacBook Pro, it has its share of problems. I would recommend buying your next computer based on the technical specs you need, AND, factor in the cost of Applecare into your purchase budget. I generally consider Applecare mandatory when buying any Apple product, from iPod on up.
