is the macbook screen brighter than the intel imac's?

i read on the apple website that the macbooks screen is as bright as the cinema displays. so does that mean it's brighter than the new imacs screen?...or are they all the same brightness?

Steve Jobs claimed that the MacBook Pro is equal to the Cinema Displays.

the cinema displays have a brightness rating of either 250 cd/m2 or 270 cd/m2 for the 2 larger ones and a contrast ration of 400:1.

The iMac has a great screen with a brightness rating of 250cd/m2 and 280cd/m2 for the 17" and 20" models respectively. The contrast ratios are 500:1 and 800:1....

so the answer must be no the MBP does not have a brighter screen than the iMac..

What this does show is that the Displays are in desperate need of an update..

Edit: it also means that the MBP screens are fantastic for laptops..

well, the 17" imac and the 20" cinema are the same brightness, and the 20" imac is slightly brighter than the 23" and 30" cinemas. The imacs do have higher contrast, though.

Now let's just hope that the intel ibook has a radically improved screen too. The comparison between my ibook and my cinema display is striking, and not at all favorable to the ibook.

If you have a Cinema Display, could you tell us how well it works in a brightly (sunlight) lit room, and with direct sunlight, respectively?

I'm looking for a laptop that allows me to work outside in the California sun, the current PowerBook is not even remotely readable when using it outside.
