Hi guys!

I was transferring files from my playstation 5 to my mac mini using a usb-c iXpand flash drive and its made of metal and its heavy and it landed on top of my MAGIC TRACKPAD. So when i saw my screen on my monitors, the monitors were functioning as if i were doing some gestures with my two fingers. (per se, using three fingers to change in between windows).

So then, there i was, just thinking what just happened. The Storage drive its very heavy and made of metal and it fell over my magic trackpad due to slipperiness of the metal. (Since the drive metal outer layer is polished) Then i started to click several times on the trackpad to see if it worked. It works but I'm concerned if the trackpad got damaged from the accident since the USB drive is heavy and made of metal. Therefore i am here posting this thread. Still i managed to turn off and turn on the magic trackpad to re-test it, and it worked kinda funky, but not as if i purchased it for the first time. The funny thing is that, i purchased this Trackpad last year and i never used it because i was using a STEELSERIES Aerox 3 Wireless mouse on my mac mini for work and school but just when i took out my Trackpad to use it for Video editing and have more precise or accurate cuts and timing and everything else, this happens.

I investigated about drop tests for the magic trackpad or any damages from above or falling objects onto the magic trackpad usbc but there was none and i dont want to do any tests or videos about it since it was expensive. (At least to me some accessories are expensive)

So, i don't know if i should purchase a new one or maybe throughout the time the Magic Trackpad will go back to normal?

I am using it right now and it works but my question is, Can it take strong damage? like if it falls from the desk the trackpad will still work?
Will the trackpad still work if something heavy falls on it per se like my case the iXpand usbc falling about 9-10 inches from distance above the magic trackpad?

Well, i see the magic trackpad pretty strong since it looks like its made of METAL all of it but when that usb fell on it, my computer wasn't sensoring my fingers normally like it was. So i restarted the mac mini then the problem was gone.

All i want to know is if the magic trackpad is BUILT STRONG? or if its a delicate item? i take care of my things so much specially electronics and gadgets cause they are super expensive and we use them as magical tools.

Anyways, it was a very very long post i do apologize i just wanted to explain with extreme accuracy in order to simplify and specify as much as possible.

Thank you!

As long as there isn‘t cosmetic damage (cracking / chipping of the glass), I would think you’re good if it’s working at the moment.

I admittedly haven’t owned one for years, but I think of how durable the phones are now with dozens and dozens of more intricate parts and architecture in there than the trackpad. I’ve already dropped my 16 Pro a few times in the past month, which years ago would have made me expect a trip to the Apple Store for a repair that evening. Not a single issue or highly noticeable blemish.

The trackpad just seems like such a simple mechanism that it would stand up to more impact than many other tech items.

Thank you so much! For the information! I can truly say i really accept your true honesty and sincerity!
It is very well appreciated because i was about to purchase another one since i never bought insurance for it because i never thought about an accident.

Well i am glad you were able to explain me and any other reader or in help with this issue that may encounter in the future or probably as i type this reply.

I will be on it and checking if there’s any weird or abnormal behavior on the gestures. But omg this
Gives me 100% peace of mind!

Thank you very much!
