Is the MBP really hot?

I have read a lot of times about MBP being hot, (VERY HOT!!!!, that's what some users normally post in forums).
But is it really true? I mean, they say you cant even think of putting the MBP in your lap. Or are these people only exaggerating?

I also read about an app that helps keeping the MBP cooler, but the guy didn't mentioned the name. Does anyone knows about it? And will these app make the MBP slower?
 
No, they are totally lying. No apple powerbook/mbp gets hot, it's just a big scam to keep people away from the awesome OS.

Seriously.. these threads written by 12 year olds or what? This place is going downhill.

What is wrong with you? He was asking a legitimate question. Go home.

To the original poster, yes some people do exaggerate but from what I've heard the PB's do get hot. I don't know about the MacBook Pro because inside it has two HUGE fans to keep it cool. It shouldn't get so hot as to burn you thought. If you are concerned about heat, you may consider getting a pad for your lap if you will be often using in on your lap.
 
Dude, there's a hundred threads on every Mac forum about them running hot.. hotter than any other powerbook held. Why start another thread about it to 'confirm' these therads as being truthful? Honestly.
 
so far i haven't had any problems with my MBP being too hot

but then again i don't put my laptop on my lap :)

and aamiic, I really don't know why sometimes people get so agressive towards other people, I was just making a question I was in doubt of. When I said "a lot of times" I don't mean that I have searched the entire web about this.
 
I played with an 1.83/1.5GB RAM MBP today at the Apple Store. I started by looping the 1280x720 HD trailer of Marie Antoinette and then did basic Safari/iPhoto/iTunes stuff for 15 minutes. The left speaker grill was warm when I started and after the 15 minutes it wasn't noticeably hotter. It was on the table the whole time but I did pick it up and feel around the bottom. Warm, but not scalding.

I'm not gonna lay it on my lap with only boxers on for 3 hours though. ;)
 
I think it's just the fact that aluminum conducts the heat from the processor very well. Some people don't understand that the whole body of the PB/MBP is a heatsink.
 
When I had the powerbook, the bottem got extremely hot, and sometimes overheated and turned off. I ended up needing a new logic board.

After that, it never got as hot, but got very warm, I wasn't able to sit it on my lap while i was in my boxers. There are pads to put under it that will let you sit it on your lap without feeling the heat.

The aluminum is a good conductor of the heat. That's why it gets so hot. It isn't a reason to not purchase the computer. All of Apple's products always work great.

I have never understood the negativity towards people and their threads. If we don't like the thread, we shouldn't worry about commenting on it. It's like this forum, rumors, and Apple is the center to so many people's lives. Get over it.

Here is a point:

Apple does not care about its loyal fans aside from us buying their products. They make products to SELL. They are a company. End of point.
 
Yeah the Macbooks are hot just visit any Apple store and pick one up. On a side note I don't think they are any hotter than the PB's were since after all you can iron a pair of pants with the bottom of any powerbook.
 
I have had toshiba, compaq, HP, sony, dell and finally came home to mac. They all run about the same no matter which one you get there will be some heat. It's bound to happen it's a machine and it generates heat! Wow imagine that! So no matter which brand or model you get, if you get a laptop it's going to get hot. They all do!

Actually, the strip right above the keyboard, between the Function Keys and the screen gets VERY hot. In fact, hot enough to burn a little bit.

It is what it is, still love the MBP.

i agree that part does get VERYYY hot, but other than that its fine, i'm laying in my bed with the MBP on my lap right now, and i mean of course its warm, but not even close to burning.

It's the area above F10 and F11 that gets the hottest... and it's too hot to touch... according to the pics that were posted, that's where the processor is located.

The rest of the case is pretty warm, but not unbearable.
 
I used to have a fujitsu P2000 with a Crusoe processor, and it didn't even have a fan. There was no fan in the machine. At 100% cpu the computer didn't even get warm. It was too slow to even play a dixv however.

My powerbook gets HOT in the summer, when the room temp is a bit high ~80, but that's about it. I haven't used a MBP yet, however the Core Duo is supposed to be very heat efficient. I'd be more concerned with my Ati X1600 heating up.
 
I have my iBook G4 running for 3 hours in class and it doesn't even get that warm. Just turn the brightness down all the way (where visible, but dark) if you don't want it generating a lot of heat. If you plan to watch a DVD, expect it to get hot.

I've owned many PC laptops and can tell you that my iBook (first MAC for me) is quiet, doesn't get very hot when i'm casually using it, and gives me 5+ battery life on a full charge.
 
Yes, it gets quite warm. Completely usable on your lap if you're wearing pants, but with bare legs it's a bit too warm for comfort. If I'm using mine in bed, I have a LapWorks lapdesk that I use, and it works great.
